School News: We are throwing a party
I noted in a recent column the many awards, accolades, and honors our school district has received this year, including the most recent—Sunrise River School has been deemed a Celebration School by the Minnesota Department of Education.
We think the designation calls for more than recognition at a school board meeting. We are prepared to dust off our dancing shoes and throw a community-wide party!
Staff and Sunrise families will all receive personal invitations to our Celebration party, but I wanted to personally extend that invitation to you as a member of this proud school district. We all contribute to making not just the school district, but also the entire community, the best it can be.
Details are still being worked out, but the Celebration party is scheduled Feb. 21, 4:15 p.m., at sunrise River School. There will be refreshments available.
I will give a short address, as will school board chair Kim Salo, and principal Jason Hartmann. The highlight of the program, though, is certain to be the students singing the Star Spangled Banner to open the program. You won’t want to miss these talented students!
Whether you have family attending one of our schools or not, we would be thrilled to see you in attendance at this event.
We were informed this week also that the Department of Education intends to spotlight our New Teacher Induction – Mentorship Program, and the various ways we have carefully embedded and aligned professional programming to support the development of non-tenure colleagues. Currently, MDE is planning to spotlight our district in April when it sends out the monthly newsletter.
It sounds like a broken record (I think I just dated myself) I know, but there are just so many reasons for all of us to be proud of our schools.
