The North Branch girls gymnastic team racked up 133.95 points to take third place in the Section 4A Championships at Chisago Lakes High School Tuesday, Feb. 12. Only the first place team and top four finishers in each event, as well as top four all-around qualify to advance to the State Championships. Sophomore Katy Trunk and junior Casey Hovland will be advancing to the State Championships individually. Trunk placed first on vault and floor, as well as took second all-around. Hovland placed fourth on the floor exercise. Trunk also finished sixth on the uneven bars. Seventh grader Alexys Olson just missed a chance to advance when she tied for fourth on the bars, but ended up with fifth in a tie breaking decision by the head judge. Olson also place seventh on beam. Senior Bayley Ertl finished sixth on the vault. The team also earned the Silver Award for Academics. The State High School Girls Gymnastics Individual Class A Championships will held at University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.
