In its first conference championship competition, the Rush City/Pine City/Hinckley-Finlayson girls gymnastic team took champion runner-up in the Granite Ridge Conference Championships Saturday at Becker.
Joining the Granite Ridge this season, the team totaled 135.85 points to place ahead of Little Falls (129.25), Maple Lake (125.35), Rockford (124.35), Howard Lake-Waverly-Winstead/Holy Trinity (118.125) and Princeton (116.425).
The girls only were defeated by Becker, who took the championship with 141.075 points.
On Jan. 25, the team defeated visiting Rockford 128.55-117.6 before taking it to St. Anthony Village 132.85-126.05 on Feb. 5, also at home.
The Rush City/Pine City/Hinckley-Finlayson girls gymnastic team was scheduled to compete in the Section 4A Championships Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Chisago Lakes High School. (Due to press time, results will be in next week’s paper.) The first place team and top four finishers in each event, along with the top four all-around, will advance to the State High School Girls Gymnastics Championships Feb. 22 and 23 at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion.
