The North Branch dance teams hosted the Section 2AA Championships in a gymnasium filled with energy and screaming fans last Saturday.
The Vikettes high kick team performed to “Stronger,” earning sixth place out of 14 teams in the tough section competition. The jazz team danced to “Hot Right Now” and finished ninth out of 13 teams.
“The Vikettes received the highest scores of the year at the section tournament,” said coach Marie Ray. “I am very proud with the improvement, growth and strength they have shown this season. It was great to end the season dancing our best.”
Totino-Grace took the high kick championship, followed by Fridley in second and Chisago Lakes in third.
Totino-Grace also was jazz champion, while Fridley took second and Concordia Academy placed third.
Only the top three teams in each category advance to the state tournament, which is set for Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Target Center.
