North Branch wrestlers Zack Sundly, Eric Bergstrom, Sam Peltier and Reid Johnson will be advancing to the State Wrestling Individual Championships after qualifying at the Section 7AA Championships in Hibbing last week.

Senior captain Sundly was section champion in the 195 weight class and is now state ranked eighth.

Senior Bergstrom (220 weight class), senior Peltier (160) and junior co-captain Johnson (126) all earned section champion runner-up.

Junior co-captain Reid Johnson earned section champion runner-up after winning true second in the 126 weight class.

“All of them are talented enough to bring home medals,” said coach Jim Hoard. “Two seniors who did not make it were captain Jake Pilz and Levi Eastwood. Both of them were very close to making it. If they were to wrestle the section again, they would both probably make it. They both deserved to make it due to all of the hard work they put in. Their work ethic will be missed next year.”

Earning a place on the podium and third place medals were Pilz (138) and junior Seamus Hunter (285).

Senior Sam Peltier earned section champion runner-up in the 160 weight class last week.

Eastwood (182), as well as juniors Aaron Senne (132) and Tristan LaBelle (170), came in fourth.

Sophomores Kody Stromayer (106) and Cameron Sampson (145) finished sixth.

Only the first and second place wrestlers in each weight class qualify for the State Class AA Individual Wrestling Championships. The tournament will be held at Xcel Energy Center beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, March 1 and 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2.
