Rush City sophomore 220 weight class wrestler Jacob Lynch will be advancing to represent the Rush City/Braham wrestling team in state competition after earning Section Champion in the Section 7AA Individual Championships in Hibbing last week.
“This will be a day I will never forget,” said Lynch after the competition.
Coach Josh Moulton noted, “He has been beaten by North Branch’s Eric Bergstom twice this season. But this day Jacob Lynch got the upper hand and beat him in the finals. Jacob was very excited as well as all the fans.”
Rush City freshman Isaiah Johnson earned a third place medal and a place on the podium, as did Braham senior James Kelling finishing with sixth.
“We had a good section tournament,” said Moulton. “Isaiah Johnson wrestled very well all year and was right there with a chance to go to state. I believe he will be there next year knocking on the door to make it. He has greatly improve from last year with his off-season workouts.”
Coach added, “For our other team players they had a great season and some are going to continue on with other forms of wrestling. We are looking forward already to next season as we only lose two kids that wrestled at the section meet this year.”
Only the first and second place wrestlers in each weight class qualify for the State Class AA Individual Wrestling Championships, which will be held at Xcel Energy Center beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, March 1 and 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2.
