Rush City sophomore wrestler Jacob Lynch represented the Rush City/Braham wrestling team in the State Class AA Individual Wrestling Championships last week.

Lynch, who competes in the 220 weight class, faced senior Jacob Claybaugh of Waseca in the first round and took down Claybaugh to get an early 4-0 lead.

But the taller Claybaugh eventually worked his way back and in the end pinned Lynch in the third period at the five minute mark.

Lynch then lost by fall 4:48 in a wrestleback to junior Max Kaping of Litchfield, while Claybough went on to take third place.

Lynch ended the 2012-13 season with a 25-10 record.

“Jacob Lynch wrestled very well at state,” said coach Josh Moulton. “He was winning each match before being pinned. I was very proud of the way he wrestled. He will be back next year very focused on a high goal. He is only a sophomore with two more years left.”
