Viking wrestlers find it tough going at state

North Branch wrestlers Zack Sundly, Eric Bergstrom, Sam Peltier and Reid Johnson competed in the State Class AA Individual Wrestling Championships last week, and no Viking wrestler earned a place on the podium.

Bergstrom (220 weight class senior) lost by decision 11-4 to senior Joe Schiller of Totino-Grace in the first round. Bergstrom then lost by fall 2:30 to sophomore Jake Filk of Hutchinson in a wrestleback. Schiller went on to place fifth. Bergstrom ended the season with a 29-11 record.

Sundly (195 senior captain) lost by fall 4:20 to junior Kory Brown of Farimont/Martin County West in the first round and did not receive a wrestleback. Sundly ended the season with a 30-8 record.

Peltier (160 senior) lost by decision 2-1 to senior Garth Ochsendorf of Dawson-Boyd/Lac Qui Parle in the first round and did not receive a wrestleback. Peltier ended the season with a 23-7 record.

Johnson (126 junior co-captain) lost by decision 7-1 to junior Zach Siegle of Scott West in the first round and did not receive a wrestleback. Siegle went on to take third place. Johnson ended the season with a 33-9 record.

This ends the 2012-13 wrestling season.
