North Branch Area Hockey Association’s B1 Pee Wee team had a remarkable 2012-13 season, with 25 wins, 10 losses and three ties.
Concluding the regular season with a 10-5-3 record, the team participated in three tournaments with a record of 8-2, including one championship in the Frostbite Falls tournament.
The Pee Wees advanced to the District 10 Championship game Feb. 24 by sweeping their competition: Spring Lake Park (4-3) and Elk River (7-0). They played hard but ultimately lost a very tight game against Champlain Park with a final score of 2-4. The North Branch community was terrific for coming to the game and showing its support.
As a result of their accomplishment in the district tournament, the boys were selected to represent District 10 in the Minnesota Hockey Pee Wee B Region Tournament. They are the first team ever in North Branch Area Hockey Association’s history to qualify for Regions.
The Pee Wees lost to Wadena in the first game, 4-5. They came back and rallied against Spring Lake Park with a 2-1 win. They then fell to Minneapolis, 3-4.
The team played with heart and honor in representing its district and community. Each game was lost by only a goal, and they were up against some of the better teams in the area.
Fantastic job, boys and coaches — you did North Branch proud!
