College financial aid workshop

To assist students in preparing and applying for financial aid, Pine Technical College will host a Minnesota College Goal workshop event, March. 27, 3:30 p.m. PTC financial aid staff members will provide professional assistance with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), as well as helpful information about additional methods for paying for college such as loans, scholarships, and more.

Military appreciation breakfast

Community Partnership with Youth & Families in conjunction with the organization’s VetCorps project will be hosting their first monthly Veteran and Military Family Appreciation Breakfast at Trinity Lutheran Church, 38460 Lincoln Trl., North Branch, room 200A, 8 to 9 a.m., March 28. All veterans, military service members, and their families are welcome to come enjoy a free breakfast. No pre-registration is required.

Skiing or Nordic pole walking 

We R Able will offer its final cross-country ski and supper event for this season March 28, 5 p.m., at the St. Croix River Education District building, 425 S. Dana Ave., Rush City. There is a modest fee to participate and pre-registration is needed. Some equipment is available, or participants may bring their own. For more information and to register, call 320-358-1220.

Curious George visit

East Central Regional Library is having a Mascot Mania tour with appearances by many popular children’s book characters this winter and spring.  Curious George will be visiting the North Branch Area Library April 3, 10:30 a.m.

Stop by the North Branch Area Library for a short story time and meet and greet with Curious George.  Be sure to bring your camera for a picture with him.  Kids will also receive activity sheets to take home with them.   For more information, call the North Branch Area Library at 651-674-8443.

Music at senior center

The band Neighberz will perform a free concert featuring a medley of Doris Day songs in honor of her birthday April 3, at the Chisago County Senior Center, 38790 6th Ave., North Branch.

Spring into stories 

East Central Regional Library and HeadStart staff will be presenting preschool spring story time at the Rush City Public Library 2 p.m., April 3, 10, 24 and May 1.  Children ages 3-5 are welcome to visit the library. Call the library at 320-358-3948 for more information.

CLIMB Theater activities

In a series of four 40-minute sessions, actor-educators from CLIMB Theatre will lead participants in a series of creative activities at the Chisago County Senior Center, 38790 6th Ave., North Branch. Together, the seniors and CLIMBers will explore old stories and invent new stories and characters that grow from the theatre activities. Sessions are limited to 20 people. The dates are as follows:

• April 4, 1 to 1:45 p.m.

• April 11 1 to 1:45 p.m.

• April 18, 1 to 1:45 p.m.

• April 25, 1 to 1:45 p.m.

‘Get Hired’ event

The Central Learning Center, 200 SW 4th St., Forest Lake, is hosting a “Get Hired” event for teens April 4, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Attendees will learn how to search for jobs, how to interview, how to keep a job and other aspects about how to make their way into the workforce.

ECE Annual Meeting

Bring your family and connect with your community. Join East Central Energy (ECE) for your cooperative’s 77th annual meeting April 6 at East Central Schools in Finlayson.

The annual meeting serves an important business purpose and is a fun social event where members can engage and learn about their cooperative.

The day begins with a complimentary pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. Popular activities such as bingo and bucket truck rides will return. There will be interactive displays focusing on ECE’s energy-saving programs, electrical safety and the co-op’s community involvement.

Members can ask questions and take part in cooperative proceedings during the business meeting at 10:15 a.m. ECE President/CEO Steve Shurts will review the cooperative’s financial report for 2012 and highlights from the year. Free licensed child care will be available throughout the event.

During the business meeting, election results will be announced for director districts 2 and 5. Elected by acclamation, Joe Morley, district 4 director will be introduced.

Live Owls

Audubon of the Northwoods will give a presentation on owls April 9, 7 p.m. at the Chisago Lakes Area Library, 11754 302nd St. Three live owls will be shown as part of the presentation.

North Branch gusic gala

The North Branch Music Boosters invite you to this year’s music gala April 12, 7 p.m. at the North Branch High School Commons. This event was organized to help support North Branch Schools’ music programs. Come dressed in your best decade style costume. There will be a cash prize for the best decade style costume.

Advance tickets are available from any music student.

Books needed

The Friends of North Branch Library is looking for people to donate their books for the spring book sale.

The books can be dropped off at the circulation desk at North Branch Area Library during open hours. Those who have questions should call 651-674-8443.

The sale is scheduled April 13.

Concert at coffee house 

Instrumentalist Troy Heling will perform at North Country Coffee, 38500 Tanger Dr., as part of the  “Arts Rx Coffee House” series April 18, 6 p.m.  Heling performs a variety of music and has been in the music business for 30 years, both as a guitar teacher and a performer in rock, top 40, blues, country, jazz, stage, praise and backup bands.

Bake sale 

The North Branch Lioness Club is sponsoring a craft/bake sale April 20, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch.

Food will be available.

Birthplace event

If you are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant, the staff in The Birthplace at Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming invites you to join them for a night of tours, educational information and fun 5 to 7 p.m., April 25.  The event is free; however, advance registration is requested.

Chisago County Senior Center fundraising raffle

The Chisago County Senior Center will have a fundraising raffle the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month now until Aug. 28. Tickets are $5 each.

Winners receive $50 and their names stay in the raffle pool for all 12 drawings, regardless of how many times they win.

Those who enter need not be present to win.
