Russell Gordon Stauffer was born Aug. 5, 1924 in Rush City, Minn. to Clarence and Cecilia (Overmann) Stauffer. The family moved to St. Paul when Russell was 12. The majority of his life was spent in St. Paul where he briefly worked at 3M and then started his life-long career at the Hamm’s Brewery. While living in St. Paul, Russell was an active member of the Montgomery Masonic Lodge #258 and the Osman Shrine. He was also a member of the Anderson Nelson VFW Post #1635 in St. Paul.
Russell served his country during WWII in the US Navy with active duty in the Pacific Theater and the Aleutian Islands. He was honorably discharged in January of 1946. The same year he was married to Margaret Kron at Immanuel Lutheran Church in West St. Paul. Russell received an Associate Arts Degree in Business from the University of Minnesota.
After moving to Goose Lake, Russell transferred his membership from Montgomery Masonic Lodge to the Jasper Masonic Lodge #164 in Rush City. Russell was a devoted lodge member, serving as Worshipful Master, Tyler for many years and an active participant in every pancake breakfast. Russ was past-president of the East Central Shrine Club and spent many hours volunteering at the Osman Shrine Circus. One of his great joys at the circus was working with the elephants. He understood the importance of Masonry and what it could do for the lives of thousands of hurting children.
