Speaker to address acid reflux treatment
Mario Potvin, MD, will speak on treating gastroesophogeal reflux disease, also known as acid reflux or GERD, at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2 in Conference Room B at Fairview Lake Medical Center.
A general surgeon on staff, Potvin sees patients in the Specialty Clinic at the medical center. Individuals who suffer from GERD and their family members are welcome to attend, as is the general public.
Gastroesophogeal reflux disease happens when stomach acid comes up into the esophagus, damaging the mucous membranes of the throat. GERD is usually caused when the muscle that holds the top of the stomach closed stops working properly. This condition, known as a hiatal hernia, allows stomach contents (gastric reflux) to rise up into the throat. New treatments now exist for treating this chronic condition.
No registration is necessary for the free program May 2, sponsored by Fairview Lakes Community Health Outreach in collaboration with the Chisago Lakes, North Branch and Forest Lakes area school community education programs. For more information contact Carla Norelius at 651-257-8806.
