Finding time to reflect on the wisdom of others

In the multi-purpose room at North Branch Area High School Friday, seniors near graduation took some time to reflect on their high school years and hear some valuable words of advice from their fellow classmates and representatives from Youth Frontiers, a “nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that partners with schools to build positive communities where students thrive socially, emotionally and academically,” according to the organization’s website.

The event, dubbed a “wisdom retreat” was made possible by a grant NBAHS obtained from the Minnesota School of Business.

John Sandahl of Youth Frontiers said the retreat was a chance for the seniors to “wrap up their high school careers in a positive way and start the process of saying goodbye in a healthy way.”

He noted graduation can be a difficult time for some students — knowing that they’re going to part from friends, teachers and mentors they’ve seen every week for years can be a tough transition — but dedicating time for “wisdom capturing” and reflection can help the change go more smoothly.
