Last Thursday the North Branch girls golf team finished fourth in the meet at Chisago Lakes Golf Course.
The Vikings scored a season best of 216 to place ahead of Chisago Lakes (224), but behind Spring Lake Park (194), Irondale (197) and Fridley (212).
Janice Elkerton carded 52, Emily Carlson 54, Hannah Gomes 54, Maddie Alden 57, Emily Lawrence 58 and Sarah Harris shot 68.
“Chisago’s head coach, Perry Aadland, did a great job of picking the date for this rescheduled meet,” said coach Dave Ambers. “The skies were mainly clear, the temperature was in the high 70s and, perhaps most importantly, the winds were light, something we’ve seen very little of this spring.
“Chisago is a long, tough course for the girls to negotiate. Our girls aren’t used to putting on such big greens, so I was particularly pleased to see some lower scores come in for us.
“As usual, sophomore Janice Elkerton led the way. Junior Hannah Gomes has been struggling this year and it was nice to see her have a good round. And, it’s good news for future prospects, eighth grader Ruth Elkerton recorded a 53 and seventh Grader Natalie Olinske carded a 57 while playing in the JV meet,” Ambers added.
