Local veterans and military organizations, complete with flag-bearing color guards and rifle squads, were well received by a good turnout of people at Memorial Day services held at cemeteries and town squares throughout the area Monday.
American Legion Post 85 out of North Branch, Harris Legion Post 139, Rush City’s Grothe-Jacobson VFW Post 6692 and accompanying auxiliaries once again did their part in not letting residents forget the sacrifice and memory of those who lost their lives in service to the country.
Local pastors recited prayer. Scouts and Auxiliaries handled flag and wreath duties. Rifle shots were fired. And it seemed younger veterans of more recent wars participated in greater numbers this year.
