The North Branch girls golf team improved from its mid-season score of 476 to 443, a differential of 33 strokes, at the North Suburban Conference Tournament.
The team placed behind Fridley (438), Chisago Lakes (422), Irondale (412), Totino-Grace (409), St. Louis Park (405), St. Francis (395), Benilde-St. Margaret’s (385) and Spring Lake Park (385), while ahead of Robbinsdale Cooper who did not have a complete team at Bunker Hills last week.
Leading the team was Janice Elkerton with 100, as she earned All-Conference honors.
Emily Carlson carded 106, Ruth Elkerton 117, Emily Lawrence 120, Sarah Harris 120 and Hannah Gomes 122.
“We had to dodge a few raindrops for the first few holes,” said coach Dave Ambers. “After that, it turned out to be a beautiful day for golf. We still finished at the bottom of the board, but we showed a lot of improvement over our first meet at Bunker. It’s been a disappointing season for us so far. However, the girls have continued to try to become better golfers. It was exciting for all of us to see Janice earn a spot on the All-Conference team. She has the ability and temperament to be a very good golfer.”
