Midsummer Ambassadors crowned (slideshow)

Ambassador candidates put on a fun dance number to begin the coronation program. Lizzy Anderson, left, and Erynn Downey used clever props in announcing their favorite part of Midsummer. Fireworks, of course. Many 2013 Midsummer Ambassador candidates chose their fathers to escort them to the stage. Here, Erin Skoglund is accompanied by father Steve. It also was an emotional night for 2012 Ambassadors Sydney Hylland, Jessica Wicklund and Lydia Olund, who not only passed on their crowns but reminisced through speeches about the many events and activities they participated in over the past year. Here, Wicklund extends her thanks to friends and family in the audience. On behalf of the 2012 Ambassadors, Sydney Hylland awards Julie Solle, coordinator of the Midsummer Ambassador program, for all her work and dedication over the years. New this year, and anticipated to be awarded annually, is the Andrea Grote Award. Andrea, a longtime French teacher at North Branch Area Schools, succumbed to her struggles with cancer last May. But her legacy and positive impact on others will live on, in part, through this award named after her. Pictured, Kallie Grote, daughter of Andrea and Kevin Grote, announced the establishment of the award before presenting it to 2013 candidate Lizzy Anderson. “My mom was a loving, beautiful and compassionate woman,” said Kallie, a 2011 Midsummer Ambassador and 2012 graduate of North Branch Area High School. The 2013 Midsummer coronation marked an extra special occasion for one North Branch family, with three generations that have won the crown. Mikayla Carlson reacts to being the first to be crowned at last Friday’s coronation for 2013 Midsummer Ambassador. Lizzy Anderson couldn’t contain her excitement over being the second to be crowned. Last but certainly not least to be crowned was Kaitlyn Johnson. Photos by Jon Tatting Introducing your 2013 Midsummer Ambassadors, from left: Lizzy Anderson, Mikayla Carlson and Kaitlyn Johnson.
