Body of St. Croix cliff jumper recovered

At about noon July 16, authorities recovered the body of a 20-year-old man, identified as Alex William Vitalis, from the St. Croix River.

The day before, Vitalis had reportedly jumped into the river from a rock ledge on the Wisconsin side of the river near the Franconia Landing and failed to surface.

A member from the Stacy Lent Dive Team recovered his body in 41 feet of water.

The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office, Stacy Lent Fire, National Park Service, Polk County Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office, the Shafer and Taylors Falls Fire Departments and the Osceola Fire Department assisted in the search for Vitalis.
