Wayne S. Grey, 86, of North Branch, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Rush City.
Wayne was born July 23, 1926 in Sunrise to parents Arthur and Ruth (Rider) Grey. He attended school in North Branch through the ninth grade and then joined the U. S. Navy, serving his country during WWII. After his discharge from the Navy in 1946, he returned home and met Jane Oberg and they married the following year on Nov. 12, 1947. Wayne worked as an electrician with Lakeside Electric in Lindstrom. Later, after moving to the North Branch area, he had his own electrician business known as Wayne Grey Electric. He was a member of the North Branch VFW. His passion and hobby was raising horses. He raised his own horses, rode and also raced horses at Canterbury Downs.
Wayne is survived by his two sons, Derril Grey, of Rush City; and Merrill Grey, of Madelyn Island, Wis.; sisters: Ethel Andrews, of Chisago City; Laurel Reed, of Monticello; Beth Clavadecher, of Monticello; and Alice Porath, of Monticello; his nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Jane; daughters Linda and Dawna; sister Adeline Hazel and brothers Paul, James and Merrill.
Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2013 at Lakes Free Church in Lindstrom with Rev. Rick Stanghelle officiating. Music was provided by Marilee Sanborn. Interment followed the service at Sunrise Cemetery with military honors provided by the North Branch American Legion and VFW Posts. Serving as casket bearers were Jeremy Eastman, Jason Cash, Jarrod Swenson, Nick Grey, Nick Gorman, Matthew Grey and Craig Wisner. Visitation was held Sunday, July 21, 5-8 p.m., at Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch and also one hour prior to the service at church on Monday.
