The Almelund Threshing Co. has chosen to begin the annual Tractor Caravan at Eko Backen Summer Events Center.
The Caravan will depart from Eko Backen Summer Events Center, 22570 Manning Trl., Scandia, 10 a.m., Aug. 4, for a leisurely ride that will end at the Almelund Threshing Showgrounds. Everyone is invited to join this fun event.
Participants are invited to gather at Eko Backen at 9 a.m. for coffee and donuts, or join the Caravan anywhere along the route.
The Caravan precedes the 57th Annual Almelund Threshing Show that begins Friday, Aug. 9.
In previous years the Caravan has commenced from rural Stillwater, North Branch and Rock Creek. The last four Caravans originated in Wisconsin.
Over 100 tractors, some pulling trailers and wagons, loaded with riders, participated last year. Some 300-plus people joined in the event.
This year’s route
The Caravan will leave Eko Backen, making a left-hand turn onto Washington County 15, Manning Trail. It will proceed north to Chisago County 15, Green lake Trail. The Caravan will follow Green Lake Trail and Old Town Road, making its way to Chisago City.
In Chisago City, the group will make a right-hand turn onto Stinson Avenue and proceed to Shoquist Lane where the Caravan will make a lefhand turn and cross US Highway 8. Next, the Caravan will make a righthand turn onto North Avenue, then Lake Avenue and onward to the first pit stop at the Chisago Lakes Sportsman’s Club.
Leaving the Sportsman’s Club, the rested Caravanners will continue on Lake Avenue to Chisago County 14, Lincoln Road. They will make a lefhand turn and travel to 316th Avenue, turning right and traveling to Chisago County 20, Furuby Road.
Once on Furuby Road, the Caravan will travel east to the next pit stop at Mary and Ted Beeksma’s residence.
Back on the trail, the group will continue east on Furuby Road to Chisago County 12, Park trail. A left turn will be made, which will take the group to Almelund and a pit stop at the Amador Heritage Center. The Center will be open for all to enjoy. The Heritage Center is well stocked with hundreds of exhibits and artifacts from local life over the past 100 years or so. Be sure to visit their collection of restored log buildings.
From Almelund, it’s a short drive southeast on MN95 to the final destination.
This is the proposed route and is subject to change due to weather or road conditions. Be sure to attend the Drivers Meeting at the beginning of the Caravan for the latest information.
Upon arrival at the showgrounds, a picnic lunch will be served. There will be a free-will donation collected for the meal; otherwise, this whole day is absolutely free.
Once participants are done with their lunch, they can place their tractor on the Showgrounds, for the Threshing Show coming up on Friday.
For those that need a ride back to the beginning to retrieve their vehicle, a motor coach will take them back to Eko Backen.
