Gammelgården Museum’s annual fiddle festival, Spelmanstämma, is coming Aug. 17 to Scandia.
This popular, family-friendly music festival literally means a “fiddle gathering” and features the American Swedish Institute’s Spelman’s (Fiddle) Lag (musical group). Have you ever heard or seen a Nykelharp? The Nykelharp Lag of the Twin Cities is also featured in this program. A Spelmanstämma is a group participation event. Everyone is invited to bring their fiddles and play with the musicians.
Also, new children’s activities will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are inspired from immigrant life of the 1860s in and around the historic Gammelgården buildings. Then, join the musicians’ parade at 1 p.m. and march onto the grounds of the museum with the Nykelharp Lag, ASI’s Spelmans Lag and the third featured group, the Nordic Bees.
Food will be available for purchase at the gazebo and arts/crafts booths will be open all day. This is a free event with plenty of free parking. Gammelgården Museum buildings will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 3-4 p.m. after the program. The Scandia Butik is open, and there is an exhibit featuring local artists called “Barn Anew!” upstairs in the welcome center.
