Play Inc Community Theatre of Cambridge has just finished its youth program for the summer, and the group is putting its focus squarely on the adults of the area.
Due to such tremendous response from Play Inc’s previous adult productions of “The Sound of Music” and “Fiddler on the Roof,” Play Inc will be offering more opportunities for adult performers. These performances will be varied in style and location to appeal to as many people as possible.
The first addition to the Play Inc season is its first non-musical play. Called “Leaving Iowa,” the play is about the typical American road trip. We’ve all been there, and we’ve all threatened to “turn this car around.” Director Angela Gregerson is looking for several adults to populate this great comedy. With a cast that is very flexible, anywhere from six to 20 performers can be used.
Auditions for “Leaving Iowa” will be held from 6-9 p.m. Aug. 21 and 22 at the Cambridge Center for the Arts space (located on 2nd Avenue, just east of Sidelines). For more information visit www.playinconline.org. Performances will be held at Cambridge Lutheran Church Oct. 11, 12 and 13. Tickets will go on sale in September.
The other opportunity for adults is a one-night workshop of improv. Former Play Inc student and recent theater graduate Loretta Miller will lead a free workshop for anybody interested in learning improvisational theatre. The evening will include a variety of improv games and techniques. The cost of the evening is $10. However, for those who email [email protected] and say they plan on attending, the cost is $5. All participation fees will be collected at the door.
