Henton: College Fair a great new initiative for kids

Here at North Branch Area Public Schools we are always looking for new ways to engage students and keep them interested in furthering their education beyond high school. With that in mind, we are proud to announce the addition of a high school college fair this September.

Deb-HentonAs it stands right now, we will have 84 colleges from Minnesota and surrounding states in attendance at our college fair on Wednesday, Sept. 18. There will also be a full range of career, community, technical and military representatives in attendance.

We are able to host this event due to an application process undertaken at the high school last year, and all expenses for the fair are paid for by the Minnesota Association for College Admission Counseling (MACAC).

Not only will our students benefit from this event, it is open to other schools as well. We know that East Central High School will be sending down one to two buses, and many other high schools have been invited to attend as well, including Pine City High School, Rush City High School, Chisago Lakes High School, Hinckley High School and Cambridge-Isanti High School.

The college fair will take place 8 to 9:30 a.m. in the east gym at the high school, with seniors attending 8 to 8:30 a.m., juniors from 8:30 to 9 a.m., and sophomores 9 to 9:30 a.m. Students do have the ability to request a pass if they require more time at the fair.

This is sure to be a wonderful event and benefit a large number of students, and we are proud to offer it right here in North Branch.
