School year begins; JES readers awarded

Rush City elementary students this year did the best job ever in returning their “5 Over Summer” reading sheets, as 92 students not only read at least five books at their reading level this summer but remembered to bring in their reading sheets on the first day of school,  .

Reporting the news was Jacobson Elementary principal Melody Tenhoff, noting second graders had the best return (40 percent) of their “5 Over Summer” reading sheets.

In support of the elementary school’s summer reading effort, the Grant House Hotel and Eatery in Rush City gave each child who returned his/her reading sheet a free ice cream cone for their reading efforts. “I thank the Grant House, parents, teachers and students who all worked together to make it a summer of reading. We are already off to a great start,” Tenhoff said.
