Preserving veteran history, one interview at a time

Incredible stories from WWII, Korean and Vietnam wars—

These stories are not found in history books — these are stories shared by the men and women who served in these wars. Come to the Chisago Lake Library Sept. 27 for some of the stories that Don Bungum has collected for this Veteran’s History Project. Plus, meet some WWII veterans and hear their stories in person. Veterans are welcome to come share their stories.

Working with local veterans’ groups and the Chisago County Historical Society, Bungum has interviewed hundreds of veterans from WWII, plus the Korean, Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars. The veterans he has interviewed are not only from Chisago County, but from all over the United States. The project also documents the contributions of civilians, such as war industry workers and medical volunteers who served in support of the armed forced.

The goal of this ongoing project is to collect and preserve stories of service, honor those who served, and make it possible to learn about the past through the first-hand accounts of men and women who lived through extraordinary times. All branches of the military are represented in this project. Veterans who have not been interviewed: Please contact Don Bungum at 651-257-4172.
