Lorraine Alice (Peterson) Olson, 95, of North Branch, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013 at Ecumen North Branch.

Lorraine was born April 30, 1918, in Kost, Minn. to Arthur and Alice (Johnson) Peterson. She attended North Branch High School, graduating in 1935, and went on to Cables Secretarial College in St. Paul, graduating in 1936. On July 14, 1945, Lorraine married Elmer William Olson in the living room of her parents’ home in North Branch. During her lifetime, Lorraine spent time as the secretary for superintendent of North Branch schools G.M. Orwoll from 1936 to 1941, worked at Merchants State Bank from 1941 to 1947, and also for Merchants State Agency from 1960 to 1983. She was a member of United Methodist Church, where she was the superintendent of Sunday school for 21 years, and she helped in other church offices. Also, she was a proud member of the choir for over 70 years. Lifelong interests included crossword puzzles, music and reading. She was especially fond of all church activities and golf, in which she made a hole-in-one. In 1935, she received the High School Activities Cup as a senior.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, in 2001; parents, Arthur and Alice; and her eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Roger (Marion) Olson, of North Branch; daughters, Grace (Joel) Merritt, of Roberts, Wis., and Laura (Steve) Newton, of Cambridge; brother-in-law, Bob Howard, of Walnut Creek, Calif.; sister-in-law, Mabel Peterson, of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Sarah Newton, Joy (David) Morlock, Christopher Castleberry, Bjorn Olson, Debra Solomon, Michele (Rommel) Roble; 9 great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and a host of friends.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at Main Street Church (North Branch United Methodist Church) with Rev. Phil Schmidt officiating. Music will be provided by Nancy Rampp, Steve Newton and Roger Nelson.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, 4 to 7 p.m. at Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Private family interment at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to Main Street Church Building Fund (North Branch United Methodist Church) or Fairview Lakes Hospice and Home Caring in Chisago City.
