Beverly Oliver says she was an eyewitness to the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy, and she plans to talk all about it at a free event, open to the public, Saturday, Oct. 12, at Stars and Strikes Entertainment Center in Wyoming.
Organizing the event, billed “JFK Remembered, 50 years later with assassination witness Beverly Oliver, the ‘Babushka Lady,’” is events promoter Wade Olson. A resident of Sunrise Township, he has kept in touch with Oliver since the two met about five years ago in Dallas.
In a press release provided by Olson, Oliver was 17 years old and just 7-10 feet away when she witnessed the JFK assassination on Nov. 22, 1963. Oliver was a personal friend of Jack Ruby, married to the Mafia and the featured singer at the Colony Club. She witnessed many of the strange “comings and goings” of people linked to the conspiracy to kill the president, while Ruby introduced her to his “friend from the CIA,” Lee Oswald, the release continued.
The event on Saturday begins with a social hour from 5-6 p.m., followed by a lecture on Beverly Oliver’s life (6-7:30 p.m.), a question-and-answer period (7:30-8 p.m.) and a meet and greet with a book signing (8-9 p.m.). A concert with the Beatles tribute band Rubber Soul follows from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Wade Olson has met many famous personalities over the years. Last year, he brought Sonny West to North Branch and Wyoming to talk about his bodyguard days with Elvis.
