NB cross country ventures into Wildcat terrain

Viking girls defeat Chisago Lakes

The North Branch boys and girls cross-country teams competed at just one meet last week, a dual at Chisago Lakes.

The Viking girls defeated the Wildcats with the top five North Branch runners all finishing around or under the 18-minute mark in the 4K race. Leading the pack was freshman Rhianna Rinke in first place with a time of 15:37 and senior Casey Hovland in third place at 16:31.

On the boys side the Vikings took second place, led by sophomore Scott Ramberg with a time of 19:00 in the 5K.

At Chisago Lakes, the Vikings celebrated Senior Night in honor of the 14 seniors between the boys and girls teams, including Hovland, Abi Spence, Haley Huset, Cassidy White and Kaeley Coleman for the girls. For the boys, Kyle Crowell, Alex Fitcha, Kyle Granger, Hector Rosales, Noah Hubbard, Joshua Fritch, Austen Wek, Cameron Hufford and Jack Kennedy were recognized. Head coach Tom Kingsland said the squads also honored parents at the event, a positive note to close the week on and prepare for the Mississippi Eight Conference meet at St. Francis yesterday.

Heading into the meet, Kingsland said his teams were excited about displaying their progress this season.

“Our athletes have a chance to put it all out there and see the results of all their hard work pay off,” Kingsland said. “We have high expectations of our athletes and are confident that they will perform well this week.”
