Tiger runners take second, third overall
The Rush City cross-country team closed its regular season Oct. 9 at the Great River Conference meet with strong showings.
The girls took second place of six schools with a total of 35 points, just six points behind leader Pine City.
Paving the way in third place of 29 runners was senior Kamila Kleiborova with a time of 16:54 in the 5K race. Next came seventh-grader Elena Herberg in sixth place in 17:15, followed by senior Sammi Oscarson at 17:59, good for 10th place.
Seventh-grader Elena Rundquist took 15th in 18:38, while ninth-grader Brooke Necowitch finished in 18th place with a time of 18:55.
On the boys side, the Tigers finished third of five schools, just one point out of second-place finisher Braham, which had 48 points. Pine City took the title with 26 points.
Senior Garrett Larson led his squad in fourth place in a field of 25 with a time of 18:43, followed by junior Kevin Nelson in 19:17, good for ninth place.
Junior Zeth Langworthy placed 10th on the day in 19:28 while sophomore Devan Larson finished in 15th with a time of 19:50. Sophomore Ethan Rundquist rounded out the scoring for Rush City with a 20th-place finish in 20:24.
The Tigers will compete in the Section 5A race in Milaca Oct. 24.
