A funeral service for Betty Jane Eberhardt, `Gi-tka-tka Winyan Pink Woman, 75, of Waubay, S.D., will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at the Enemy Swim Community Center, Enemy Swim, S.D., with the Revs. Les Campbell, Paul Kimball and Dallas Anderson officiating. Bagpipes will be played by Bill Dempsey. Pallbearers will be Clifford David Eberhardt; Russell Eberhardt; Kenneth Eberhardt; Charles Eberhardt; Nicolas Eberhardt; and Dustin Eberhardt. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bettys Grandchildren: Cara Bohler; Jared Orn; Dustin Eberhardt; Shaun Lapinski; Andrew Lapinski; David Eberhardt; Joshua Eberhardt; Matthew Eberhardt; Marcella Eberhardt; Charles Eberhardt; Erik Rockwood; Cahera Rockwood; Tessa Eberhardt; Izabell Eberhardt; Noah Bowerman; Cloe Eberhardt; Nicole LaVallie; Travis Storbakken; Russell A. Eberhardt II; Broderick Roberts; Brayden Roberts; Briar Roberts; Jorie Roberts; and many great-grandchildren. Interment will be in the St. James Episcopal Cemetery, Enemy Swim, S.D. There will be an all-night wake 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at the Enemy Swim Community Center. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, S.D. is in charge of arrangements.
Betty Bessie Jane Robertson was born Sept. 21, 1938, to Thomas and Elvina (Owen) Robertson in Waubay, S.D. She attended school in a one-room schoolhouse Waubay School in rural Waubay. She moved with her parents to Rapid City where she met her husband David Eberhardt, who was working at the Ellsworth Air Force Base. They were united in marriage in 1964 at Rapid City, S.D. They traveled to small towns where David worked on construction. They moved to Rush City, Minn. in 1972, where Betty was a mother and homemaker. Betty, in 1996, moved to Waubay and made her home. She loved cooking, and made the best fried chicken and potato salad. She enjoyed collecting owls. She always opened her home to family and friends who were in need and was like a mother to them.
Betty is survived by nine children: Renee and Jeff Orn, of Rush City, Minn., Carol Pixie Eberhardt, of Waubay, S.D., Christine Eberhardt and significant other, Jim Bruce, of Watertown, S.D., Clifford David Eberhardt and significant other Peggy Carlbom, of Webster, S.D., Russell and Tina Eberhardt, of Watertown, S.D., Kenneth Eberhardt, of Hinckley, Minn., Charles and Candace Eberhardt, of Webster, S.D., Darlene Jo and Kevin Roberts, of Waubay, S.D., Nicolas and Kati Eberhardt, of Sandstone, Minn.; one sister, Belva Hatle, of Waubay, S.D.; and 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Elvina Robertson, her husband, David, brothers, Charles Sonny Robertson, Ed ToTo Robertson, Thomas Robertson, baby Jimmy Robertson, sister Lucille Anderson, and granddaughter Jessica Eberhardt.
