The Chisago County Republican Executive Committee has issued an apology on the posting of an image depicting a slavery auction on the Facebook page run by the Chisago County Republican Party.
Buzz among social networkers and the local community quickly spread to the national level with many media outlets reporting on the image, which was accompanied by the words, “Pro-Choice: Against slavery? Don’t buy one.” The graphic was reportedly posted Wednesday morning by a source unknown to the party but who had access to posting authority.
It has since been taken down from the website (https://www.facebook.com/ChisagoGOP) and replaced with the following response from the Chisago County GOP committee:
“We have been made aware that a posting was put on Facebook this morning that was in obviously poor taste. Although the posting was no longer on the site when we looked for it, it saddens us that it ever made it that far. In reviewing how it may have been posted on the site, which has a large number of administrators, it is unfortunate that the root of the posting could not determined at this time. We have since had all of the users of the page removed until we can locate the person responsible for the posting. The Chisago County Republican Party is very sorry that something so clearly improper (either intended or in poor taste) ever made it to our page. Postings like this are not representative of our party. We are a party that believes in Freedom for all Americans regardless of race or religion. It is after all where the Republican Party came from in its origins, the anti-slavery movement.”
The Post Review is currently awaiting word from the Chisago County Republican Party leadership to comment on this issue.
