NB runner places 65th of 174
Freshman Rhianna Rinke traveled to St. Olaf College in Northfield to compete in the Class AA cross-country state meet over the weekend.
Rinke finished in 65th place in a field of 174 in the 4K race with a time of 15:19. Twin sisters and sophomores Bethany and Megan Hasz from Alexandria took first and second place at the event with times of 13:53 and 14:13. Wayzata took first place as a team, with all five scoring runners placing in the top 10.
This was Rinke’s second time competing at the state race, having qualified last season as a eighth-grader. She took 88th place in 2012 with a time of 15:27.
Head coach Tom Kingland said it was great having members of the North Branch community and team at the race to cheer on Rinke and that he was pleased with the young runner’s improvement.
“As coaches, we are very proud of Rhianna’s performance, attitude and work ethic,” Kingsland said. “We believe she has enormous potential and the next three years of her high school cross-country career will be very exciting.”
