Before the board delved into its regular agenda Dec. 12, it took time to recognize Board Chairwoman Kim Salo, who was attending her last meeting as a member of the school board for North Branch Area Public Schools.
At the Nov. 20 school board meeting, Salo announced her resignation from the board; she cited a desire to spend more time with family and at her business as the reasons for her early departure.
She was presented a bell as a token of appreciation for her 14 years on the board.
“I’d just like to thank Kim for her support and dedication to the students in the district,” Board Member Tim MacMillan said. “My transition coming onto the board was so much smoother because of the time she spent with me.”
School Board Member Linda Heidelberger added, “Thanks, Kim, for all your support of the kids.”
Those in attendance for the meeting then gave Salo a round of applause.
The board decided to use an appointment process to fill the vacancy created by the Salo resignation. The school board will consider candidates at the Jan. 9 meeting.
