Ecumen presents Christmas pageant

Ecumen North Branch presented its annual Resident Christmas Pageant in front of a good turnout of friends and student volunteers from North Branch schools on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 18, in the senior living facility’s Sunrise Hall.

Myrna Johnson portrays Mary with the baby Jesus while another Ecumen resident plays the role of Joseph in a scene near the beginning of the program.
Dorothy Wehrenberg, Kathryn Schmaltz and Phillip Viskoe portray the shepherds, complete with appropriate attire and little stuffed lamb animals. Seated, Art Pratt and Pearl Hoversten join in a song that went with the Christmas program. They recalled how their families and churches celebrated Christmas and decorated the tree — sometimes using real candles — in their youth. “It was a real family get-together,” said Pratt, noting children would string popcorn and use cranberries and paper decorations to adorn the tree. “Dad would read from the Bible, and the Christmas gifts found under the tree were made by our parents.”
