Happy new year to all! I hope your 2014 is starting out well for you and your family. It is certainly starting out well for your school district; we have much to look forward to this year.
In fact, we are already looking forward to celebrating the Sunrise River School staff, students, and families. As you may already know, Sunrise was honored as a “Reward School” by the Minnesota Department of Education for being a top performer among schools that receive Title I funding.
Sunrise will host a “spirit week” for students the final week of January, and there will be a breakfast on the morning of Jan. 31 to mark the occasion. Food will be served starting at 6:45 a.m. with formal remarks expected at 7:15 a.m.
Of course, you are invited and encouraged to attend!
There are other opportunities to participate in school district events and functions in the near future as well.
The next Parent Academy is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, Feb. 8, at the high school. Attendees will learn how the district approaches school safety and learn some helpful tips to help kids deal with situation both in school, and in the ever-growing world of social media.
Please call Community Education at 651-674-1025 to register; free child care is available.
As you will certainly work up an appetite from all that learning, stop by our chili booth at WinterFest. The chili will be served 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and will be in the JJ’s parking lot instead of Central Park this year. We are the reigning and multiple “healthiest chili” champs and I am sure that Chef Sharon will be cooking up another glorious pot of her chicken chili. If you have never had it, you are missing out!
I hope to see you at one of these fun events.
