Rush City and North Branch 12 and under teams had the opportunity to play each other at the Monticello Volleyball Tournament on Jan. 19.
For the Rush City squad, comprised of fifth and sixth graders, it was the girls’ first games and tournament, and they were well played. The team took the first two games against Princeton (25-15, 25-18) before running neck and neck against North Branch and Pequot Lakes (20-22, 18-20).
In the North Branch-Rush City match-up, each team took the opportunity to tie the score. North Branch, which previously had competed in one other tournament, finally secured the win with scores of 27-25 and 25-23.
For the Viking girls, ranging in age from 8-12, they won their first match against Pequot Lakes (25-21, 25-19) before facing Rush City. North Branch then went up against Rockford, and the contest ended in a tie (20-14, 17-20). Game three was held to a 20-point maximum due to time constraints.
