Students from C.E. Jacobson Elementary in Rush City took part in the “Science Rocks” conference Jan. 8 at St. Cloud State University.

The students participated in hands-on, mini-sessions on dissecting hearts of cows and sheep, building roads atop gelatin and operating on a sheep’s intestine before suturing them back up as veterinarians. They also learned about some of Minnesota’s strange creatures.

In the conference’s grand finale, two former science professors presented “Spectacles of Physics.” Along with being awed by this presentation, the students had fun being college students for a day.

The sixth-grade students who represented Jacobson Elementary at the conference were Eddie Blazek, Sandon Stepp, Anna Bush, Lauren Steltz, Branden Carmichael, Sarah Schmidt, Broderick Larson, Daniel Lund-Koecher and Matthew Papke.
