It gives me great pleasure to call out two staff members who have recently been rewarded for their efforts! Sharon Thompson and Charley Klopp both received special recognition last week.
Sharon, the school district’s chef and a Taher employee, was informed last week she has been selected to accompany Taher executive chefs to Italy and Holland. She was selected for this honor despite not being an “executive” chef due to the efforts she makes in the community above and beyond her job.
Whether it is her work with senior dining, the chili contest (this Saturday!), or her dedication to our students and their nutrition, Sharon is deserving of this honor. She will spend six days cooking with chefs in Sicily, Rome, and Amsterdam. Having never been abroad, this trip is exciting on many levels and we look forward to the techniques and cuisine Sharon will bring to our district. As if our food wasn’t already the best around!
Charley has been selected to receive the Distinguished Service Award from the Minnesota Athletic Administrators Association, an honor that is also well deserved. Charley is a Reading Corps volunteer for Early Childhood, but that is just a scratch on the surface of his service.
Charley and wife Rosemary can be found taking personal time to attend almost all school board meetings; they’re at the meetings simply to be aware of what is happening with the school district. His service at activities is second to none; he announces games, site manages, operates clocks, works the chain gang at football games, and attends many events outside of his duties. He volunteers for community events as well; you may have seen him dressed like the “Cat in the Hat” a time or two to read to children. In his spare time, Charley chairs the Community Education Advisory Council.
My words don’t do Sharon or Charley justice; both are major assets to our community. I hope you will take a moment to congratulate them if you see them around.
