Sunrise brings the beach to school

There might not have been acres of soft, white sand or warm rays of sun shining overhead Thursday at Sunrise River School in North Branch, but it still resembled a beach, nonetheless.

Students at the school donned beachwear — like sunglasses and Hawaiian shirts — spread out towels on the lunchroom floor and pretended the weather was warmer. Thoughts of summer are certainly needed at this time of year.

The event was organized to celebrate Sunrise students for the effort they showed in donating goods to the local food shelf.

In all, 1,524 pounds of food was donated.

During this month, students also entered 225 puppets in the Fitness Fever Contest. Throughout the month, students strove to eat five fruits and five vegetables per day, and exercise 60 minutes every day.
