Lake State Credit Union recently completed a pledge drive with area high school students. Drivers signed the pledge that states, “I pledge not to text and drive. No message (or website or video) is worth risking my life or anyone else’s on the road. I will also limit other distractions while driving to prevent putting my passengers or other motorists at risk.”

Texting while driving is the largest cause of death for teens and is only getting worse. Lake State decided to put resources to helping change that.

“Our credit union is always looking to give back and make a difference to the communities we serve,” said Lake State SVP of Sales and Marketing Brad Larson. “I truly hope it makes them stop and think before pulling out their phone. Thankfully, we’ll never know how many lives are saved and accidents prevented by bringing awareness to them.”

In the eight area schools that participated in the pledge drive, 1,034 students made the commitment. This equates to about 50 percent of driving age students. This is a cause that Lake State plans to continue to support in the future.
