Marvin Nelson

Marvin G. Nelson, age 76 of North Branch died on Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Cambridge Medical Center in Cambridge with his family by his side.
Marvin was born on August 23, 1937 at the family farm south of North Branch to parents, Gustas Mauritz and Clara (Swenson) Nelson. Marvin attended North Branch schools where he excelled in sports and held a free throw record in basketball for many years. He graduated in 1957 and moved to Minneapolis for a short time to become an upholsterer before moving back to North Branch where he established Nelson Upholstery. Marvin worked as an upholsterer until the early eighties when he developed the Swede O Ankle support that is still manufactured in North Branch. He married Karen Smith on October 5, 1957 at Fish Lake Lutheran Church. Marvin was always a supporter of North Branch where he was the first president of the Chamber and where he served a term as president of the North Branch Golf Club. He loved golfing and was proud of his two hole in ones he achieved, he loved his old cars, attending and supporting athletic events, dinner parties and entertaining as well as sharing Karens great cooking with others.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Karen; children, Jeff (Debbie) Nelson of Sunrise; Craig Nelson of North Branch and Jill (Gary) Decker of North Branch; his brother, Milton Nelson of North Branch; his 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandsons and one great granddaughter as well as his sister in law, Elaine Nelson of Douglas, AZ and many nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives in Sweden. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gustas Mauritz and Clara; brother, Willard; sister Helen Lundgren and grandson, Jeremy.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch with Rev. Gary Guptill officiating. Music was provided by Deb Aulich, Jo Ann Nelson Dolezalek; Kelly Rogstad and Jon Ekstrom. Serving as casket bearers were Butch Olson, Lee Debele, Mark Grissman, Jon Heilig, Ted Nemetz, Max Malmquist and Steve Anrom. Visitation was held on Monday night from 4 to 7 p.m. at Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch and also one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday. Family interment at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in North Branch.
