New to Medicare sessions
Going on Medicare soon or just interested in how it works? There will be information on Medicare given out at these sessions at Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming, as well as questions answered 10 a.m. to noon on the following dates: May 7, June 4, July 2, August 6.
Aspects of Medicare parts A,B,C and D will be covered as well as information on supplemental insurance to Medicare and how to report Medicare fraud and abuse. There is no cost to these sessions, but Fairview does need participants to register so there the proper amount of materials are available. NB/RC libraries preschool story times
Spring preschool story time is already in progress at the North Branch Area Library and the Rush City Public Library. Children ages 3-5 are invited to join volunteer story time leaders Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. at the NB library now through May 7. Children of the same age are invited to the RC library Wednesdays at 2 p.m. now through May 21. There will be no story time April 16 at the RC library. We R Able invites area residents to enjoy supper and a musical performance by harmonica player Dave McKeen 6 p.m. May 8 at North Country Coffee, 38500 Tanger Dr., North Branch. He will play plenty of toe-tapping tunes and old favorites. The meal begins at 5 p.m.
Pre-registrations are needed for meal reservations with We R Able. Besides the cost of the meal, We R Able accepts donations for the concert production costs. It also invites area musicians to contact the organizatio should they be interested in performing as part of the Arts RX Concert series. Annual Salad Luncheon and Boutique
Celebrate spring at the Fairview Lakes Auxiliary’s annual Spring Salad Luncheon and Boutique from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 9 at St. Bridget’s of Sweden Catholic Church in Lindstrom. A wide variety of salads will be served in addition to hot dish, rolls, dessert and beverage for $8. The boutique opens at 10:30 a.m., featuring handcrafted items including purses, aprons, jewelry, kitchen items, cards and more.
Advance tickets are available in the gift shop at Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming, the Yellow Bus in Forest Lake and the Fairview Clinic in Chisago City. Tickets also can be purchased at the door. The Auxiliary uses proceeds from the annual event to enhance patient care at Fairview Lakes Medical Center and related facilities.
Battle of the Musicians
The North Branch Music Boosters will be hosting Battle of the Musicians at the North Branch High School Auditorium 7:30 p.m. May 9.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top performances selected by the audience.
This is a North Branch Music Booster fundraiser. Admission is $5 at the door. Come and enjoy the music and vote for your favorite band.
Almelund seniors meeting
Almelund seniors will meet at the Amador Town Hall May 9 for a potluck dinner at noon. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the day of cards and social time.
St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour
The 22nd annual St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour and Sale will welcome visitors May 9, 10, and 11 to seven pottery studios. Each studio is a short drive from the others, allowing some or all to be visited in a single day.
This springtime, self-guided tour is anticipated by those who enjoy handmade pottery. It is nationally recognized as a gathering of exceptional potters. Always held on Mothers’ Day weekend, “The Tour” is an opportunity to enjoy the hospitality of local potters in their rural studios. This year, visitors can meet 44 accomplished guest potters from around the nation who have been invited especially for this weekend event.
Fundraiser for Senior Center
An event called Tables around Town, a fundraiser for the Chisago County Senior Center, will include dinner, entertainment and a silent auction May 10. Cocktails will be served at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets ($40 apiece) are available at the Senior Center, 38790 6th St., in North Branch.
NB American Legion Auxiliary meeting
The North Branch American Legion Auxiliary will not have a regular meeting in May, but the Auxiliary will have its Mother’s Day Banquet at 6 p.m. May 14 at the American Legion Hall. All members are welcome as well as guests, if members need a driver. Aubudon roadside cleanup
Join the Wild River Audubon Chapter for a spring roadside clean-up at 9 a.m. May 17. Meet in the lower parking lot at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City. Wear old clothes and bring a pair of gloves. Work for an hour or two.
NBHS Hall of Fame Awards
The North Branch High School Alumni Association will be honoring this year’s recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Hall of Fame Award during a 7:30 p.m. ceremony at the Chisago County Community Center, 38790 6th Ave., North Branch, May 21.
A reception will start at 6:30 p.m.
The recipients are Thor Bergstralh, class of 1932; John Holum, class of 1946; and Galen Britz, class of 1957.

‘Wink the Other Eye’ concert
East Central Minnesota musicians Ginger Glenn, Dave Gourhan and Dennis Murry will perform at the Chisago County Senior Center, 38790 6th Ave., North Branch, at 2 p.m. May 21 as part of the Coffee Time Concert Series. They perform as Wink the Other Eye, and will feature a variety of old time tunes on fiddle and guitar. Donations are accepted.

Summer is a time for making your way to the ballpark, hitting a few softballs, and running around the bases. We R Able organizes a 6-week session for summer softball on Thursdays, May 22 to June 26, at the Lent Town Hall. The games run 4-6 p.m. at 33155 Hemingway Ave., Stacy. In case of rainy weather, players adjourn indoors for some games of bingo. We R Able provides programs for adults with disabilities in a four-school district area: Pine City, Rush City, North Branch, and Chisago Lakes. Eight-hour 55-plus driver
An 8-hour course for drivers 55-plus is being held at the Linwood Senior Center,

Help with home projects
Do you or someone you know need help with projects around the house? These projects could include small remodeling projects, a wheel chair ramp, painting, clean up or other endeavors. Do you have limitations that are stopping you from getting these needed things done? Time? Finances? Disability? Bridge of Grace Church may be able to help you.
The church is hosting teams of eager workers the week of June 8-14 who can help people with such projects through Hands of Hope. The teams will provide the labor needed to get projects done, and the church may be able to provide assistance with purchasing needed materials. Ladies’ invitational golf tourney
The Third Annual Chisago Lakes Ladies’ Invitational tournament will be hosted by the women’s leagues at Chisago Lakes Golf Course in Lindstrom June 18.There will be an
8:30 a.m. shotgun start for this 2-woman best ball event.
The 2014 invitational will honor a longstanding member of Chisago Lakes Golf Course, Shari Grandstrand.
She passed away in early April, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Center City Art expo
Some $500 in cash prizes will be awarded to winners of the first annual Vilhelm Moberg two-day art expo planned as part of Center City Days, Friday and Saturday, August 1 and 2. The first prizewinner in acrylic or oil painting, drawing, or a similar art expression will receive $250 with lesser amounts awarded to other winners.
Prizewinning categories include the Karl Oskar Award, Per Andersson Honorarium, Anders Svensson Honorarium, Frank Mobeck Honorarium, Andrew Wallmark Honorarium, and Daniel Lindstrom Honorarium. All are historic persons representing nearby villages, and all entries must reflect the historic or cultural nature of the Chisago Lakes Area.
Framed art will be displayed indoors within the business places of cooperating owners. A $10 registration fee will be required, and artists may choose to add their work to the silent auction Aug. 2.
Women’s salad luncheon
First Lutheran Church of Harris is hosting a women’s salad luncheon at noon May 10.
There will be door prizes and entertainment by “Reminisce,” a country gospel and bluegrass group.
Spring tea event
Immanuel Lutheran Church, Almelund, will host a 2 p.m. spring tea May 10. Come and enjoy an afternoon of food and fellowship and a program on the history of aprons. Participants are encouraged to bring any aprons they might have for show and tell. All ages are welcome. Free will donations are accepted.
Gardening speaker, tea party
Lakes Free Church, 29620 Olinda Trl., Lindstrom, is hosting a tea party lunch 11:30 a.m. May 19.
Wear hats and gloves and bring a favorite teacup to share.
The River Valley Christian Women’s Connection sponsors this event. Dorothy Rupert will be the guest; she will speak on “A Better Plan.” The special feature will be Jan Lynn from Crabtree’s Garden Gate, presenting “Step into the Garden.” Penny Brown and Connie Drabant will provide music.
