The Grandstrand Funeral Home and Cremation Services is the official collection/drop-off site for U.S. flags that are considered old, worn, tattered, frayed or faded and unusable. Grandstrand accepts flags for retirement and will oversee proper disposal in accordance with the U.S. Flag Code which states, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
Through this initiative, Grandstrand hopes not only educate the public as to the importance of proper flag disposal, but also provide those in the local community with a convenient and easy way to do so.
These flags serve as constant reminders to citizens that they live in a country where freedom has been deeply purchased by blood, sweat, tears and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for these freedoms Americans enjoy. Citizens must not forsake those who have sacrificed in service to this flag, and their families, and what they have forfeited.
The Grandstrand Funeral Home and Cremation Services are proud to provide a free no-cost flag retirement service to all residents in the community and surrounding areas to retire U.S. flags with the dignity they deserve. The flags will be kept at the funeral home until the official ceremonial retirement service. Old and worn out flags may be dropped off at any Grandstrand location Monday through Friday any time of the year 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
