Tiger golfers prepare for postseason

Fessenden and LeMon earn all-conference honors

The Rush City boys and girls golf teams competed at the Great River Conference final meet at Purple Hawk Country Club last Wednesday.

The boys squad finished with a fifth-place tie in the conference, while the girls took sixth.

Junior Dylan Fessenden posted a score of 84 to lead the Tigers at Purple Hawk, while senior Nick Schmidt scored a 93.

Eighth-grader T.J. Roth came in with the next low score for Rush City at 103, while eighth-grader Jacob Scherer and ninth-grader Eddie Johnson tied at 111. Eighth-grader Ethan White posted a score of 121.

Sophomore Brea LeMon led the Tigers for the girls with a score of 113, while junior Sara Johnson posted a mark of 128.

Sophomore Heather Fisher and senior Chelsea Hauner rounded out the varsity scoring at 151 and 166, respectively.

Fessenden and LeMon were both named to the GRC all-conference team.

“The two stories to the season have been our youth and the weather,” head coach Jeremy Albright said. “One affects the other — it’s hard to get better as a young golfer when the weather isn’t letting you get outside and practice, but our kids are doing the best they can.”

The Tigers started the first round of Section 7AA play on Tuesday and Wednesday at Pokegama Golf Course in Grand Rapids. The section round takes place on Thursday, May 29, at Pokegama.
