Man missing after rescue attempt on St. Croix River; boy OK

A 21-year-old Coon Rapids man was reported missing a day after he and another man jumped into the St. Croix River in an attempted rescue of a boy who had fallen in late Sunday afternoon.

According to a media release from the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office, deputies at about 4:45 p.m. Sunday responded to an address in the 100 block of South Street in Taylors Falls on a report of a juvenile male who had fallen into the St. Croix.

Law enforcement learned Touhu Vang and another adult male jumped into the river in an attempt to rescue the boy. While one of the men was able to rescue the boy and bring him to shore safely, Vang has yet to be found.

Search efforts for Vang continued into Monday, May 26.

The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by personnel from the National Park Service, Taylors Falls Fire Department, Stacy-Lent Fire Department and Lakes Region EMS. Updates will be provided as information becomes available.
