Crisis phone counseling, outpatient mental health services for residents impacted by closure of Riverwood Centers
Canvas Health has opened a new office in North Branch that will offer outpatient mental health services to area residents.
The new office opened April 7. Office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday with evening hours available on Mondays. Residents can call the Canvas Health Intake Line at 651-777-5222 to make appointments at the new North Branch location.
This new expansion is a result of the closing of Riverwood Centers. It is an opportunity to provide continuation of service for those clients who were being served prior to its closing. Many Canvas Health clients are already from Chisago County. The new North Branch office will allow easier access for clients and the ability to better serve a larger community.
Canvas Health’s Crisis Connection, a phone and text crisis counseling center, has already picked up the 1-800 crisis line for the five counties impacted by the closing of Riverwood Centers. Now with the outpatient office opening in North Branch, the mental health provider will be serving primarily Chisago and some of southern Pine County.
“We have been very fortunate to hire some of the existing staff and interns that were working out of the Riverwood Centers North Branch office,” said Mark Kuppe, chief executive officer of Canvas Health. “We are dedicated to bringing hope, healing and recovery to people’s lives, so when we learned about the loss of a major mental health provider in the region, it was a natural mission-driven initiative to see what we could do to help impacted residents.”
Each year, Canvas Health programs serve more than 9,000 children, adolescents, adults and elderly challenged with debilitating aspects of mental illness, chemical misuse, aging or physical and sexual abuse. Canvas Health has volunteers and staff who answer 47,400 crisis calls and crisis texts annually.
Additional programs and services include assistance of housing and employment, advocacy and referrals to more than 300 homeless youth and anti-bullying educated to more than 11,000 students. Canvas Health programs and services are offered throughout the Twin Cities metro area with additional office locations in Brooklyn Center, Coon Rapids, Cottage Grove, Forest Lake, Oakdale Heights, Richfield, Stillwater and West St. Paul.
