Authorities have found the body of Tou Hu Vang, the 21-year-old Coon Rapids man who went missing after he and another man jumped into the St. Croix River to rescue a boy who had fallen in Sunday afternoon.
The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office made the recovery at 9:51 a.m. today in the river just south of the Osceola Landing. Assisting were the National Park Service and Taylors Falls Fire Department, the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
Chisago County deputies first responded to a report of a juvenile male who had fallen into the St. Croix about 4:45 p.m. Sunday, May 25 in the 100 block of South Street in Taylors Falls. They learned Vang and another adult male reportedly jumped into the river in an attempt to rescue the boy.
While one of the men succeeded in bringing the child to shore, Vang was never found. Search efforts for Vang continued throughout the week.
