Another successful year for the after school program, Youth FIRST Club

To the editor

Community Partnership’s Youth FIRST Club has finished another successful year of serving kids in Chisago and Isanti Counties. Youth FIRST Club is an after school program that Community Partnership with Youth & Families has been running since 1998. The purpose of this program is to provide youth with a safe, structured, fun place to be until Mom and Dad are done with their workday.

Youth FIRST Club is funded in part by a grant from the Greater Twin Cities United Way. The program is also supported by an annual Bowl-O-Rama fundraiser, at which the youth raise funds through donations. It is a great event and fun for everyone! This year business sponsorships offset the costs of putting on the event. A huge thank you to the following businesses that sponsored our bowling event this year: Lakes Region EMS, Chisago Lakes Rotary Club, Prefer Paving & Ready Mix, Inc., Braham Area Community Education, Partners For A Drug Free Chisago County Coalition, Greater Twin Cities United Way, Farmers Insurance-Tom Kieffer, Lake State Credit Union, DeNio Appliance Service, Chisago Lakes Lions Club, First State Bank of Wyoming. We really appreciate you putting “Youth FIRST”!

Because of this support the program is offered to participants at no cost. The club takes place at five schools, over a 23-week time period. This year we served over 430 kids.

The program supports the efforts of the Partners For A Drug Free Chisago County Coalition, one of America’s oldest and most effective collaboratives. The coalition consists of representatives of all sectors of the community working together to reduce and prevent youth substance use in Chisago County.
