JROTC coming to NBAHS

A phone call from the Air Force last Friday morning carried the news to North Branch Area Public Schools Superintendent Deb Henton that Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) is coming to North Branch Area High School!

NBAPS applied to the Air Force for a JROTC program roughly a year ago, and had been told it had been placed on the waiting list for future consideration. However, due to another school district’s decision to not pursue the program, NBAPS jumped to the head of the line.

Air Force JROTC will officially be offered to high school students starting Jan. 1, 2015.

“This is a huge victory for the school district and for the community,” Henton said. “Individuals from the city, veterans organizations, and other interested groups came together to submit this application. In fact, I believe that community involvement in this process was key to seeing it through to where we are today. Those individuals who took part in the process and helped us put our ‘best foot forward’ have my deepest gratitude and thanks.”

More information about this initiative will be available early in the 2014-15 school year.
