Timothy Oachs and David Stolhanske of Lakes Regions Emergency Medical Services have been presented with Regions Hospital’s “Outstanding Achievement” award for providing outstanding care to a cardiac arrest patient in the field. The award was presented during Regions Hospital’s annual “Rig Wash” celebration in honor of National EMS Week.
Oachs and Stolhanske quickly identified that the patient, Lloyd Jones, was having a severe heart attack. After consulting with local hospitals on his condition, they took Jones directly to Regions Hospital – preparing him en route for emergency surgery. Lloyd received life saving surgery just 13 minutes after his arrival at Regions, 46 minutes faster than the national average.
“The quick actions and professionalism of Timothy Oachs and David Stolhanske demonstrate the value Emergency Medical Services provides our community,” said Ralph Frascone, MD, medical director of Regions Hospital EMS. “Critical care begins in the streets, and often makes the difference between life and death. EMS providers are valuable partners to us here at Regions, and together we provide the best medical care possible.”
During the awards ceremony, Oachs and Stolhanske were reunited with Jones, who expressed gratitude for the team who took care of him and for all EMS providers.
